Every Great Adventure Begins With One Decision

Every Great Adventure Begins With One Decision

Building a new business requires copious amounts of faith. The hardest - most frightening - thing to do is leaving a safe, secure day job and pursuing a career doing what you love. Bills still have to get paid. You have to keep a house over your head. But what happens when you step out in faith and land into an opportunity that doesn’t feel like you’re exchanging time for money

Every New Adventure Begins Somewhere

The daily grind. A familiar term every working human being in the United States and beyond recognizes that popular term.

The daily grind is often described as:

Waking up before 7AM to get the kids ready for school. Come home to dress for work by 9AM. Work that job until 5 or 6PM, drive home, and feel too exhausted for any after school activities or cook dinner.

To many, exchanging time for money isn’t the ideal life. It definitely wasn’t for our Wolf Knight team

My husband John and I wanted to build something for ourselves and their kids. We originally owned a small publishing house, and were on our way to see some growth. As soon as COVID hit, however, we experienced a devastating loss and had to shutter our doors.

I applied to multiple jobs, yet barely spent a year at any of them. I knew what working for myself felt like and was determined to find a way to be at home with my two beautiful teenagers again. The sting of failure hurt. I didn’t want to feel it again.

So, I set out to build my skillset. I went back to business school and increased my knowledge from the savviest mentors in the sales and marketing world. Names like Jeremy Miner, Donald Miller, Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins, Seth Godin, Brendan Kane, Grant Cardone, and Jordan Belfort became daily voices in my ears and in my head.

My husband, John, a disabled Army veteran, and aspiring YouTuber had dreamed of doing a dropshipping business. He wasn’t sure what items he would work in or around, but he knew he wanted to engage in the dropshipping business model.

I thought: “Maybe we could use that.”

But how?

It was time to experiment.

During my time at college, I began building a fictitious dropshipping coffee company called Mushroom Ring. A company dedicated to Mushroom coffees and teas. I had a love for the health benefits of nature and wanted to expand that knowledge to stressed out, working moms.

I noticed a problem.

Mushroom Ring didn’t reflect both John and I’s passions. To make this new business venture work, we had to come up with something we both believed in and actively wanted to grow for their kids.

At the end of 2025, we put their heads together and noticed something so obvious: we both loved gaming and we both loved coffee. Mushroom Ring soon became Wolf Knight Coffee. A company and a legacy they could leave their children.

While the company doesn’t have a physical storefront - yet - we dream of building a coffee and tea tavern for the people of Denton, TX. A safe zone where college students, gamers, and the community can join together over delicious, fresh specialty coffee and tea.

Why We Built Wolf Knight Coffee

The story of Wolf Knight Coffee began as many small businesses do. With vast amounts of research. To succeed, John and I needed to find an underserved market.

My marketing experience from the publishing company and knowledge gained from mentors led me to an important discovery. There was a gap in the growing niche of tabletop gaming and pop culture drinks, dice, and merchandise.

I’d only scratched the surface. More research widened a more important niche. While tabletop gaming and pop culture marketed to streamers and gamers, there wasn’t a market dedicated specifically to the PC and console gamers. Especially in the dark fantasy and grimdark communities.

Both John and I are avid lovers of the Dark Souls series. And we knew we didn’t want to build just another themed coffee and tea company. What if we could build our brand around that, but put a twist on it and craft our characters, story, and world? An experience our customers could enjoy along with their daily coffee ritual.

Each label, brew name, and product description is a small part of a vast story. We decided to craft our company around a single protagonist: Wolf Knight. A character dropped into a world torn by war, plague, and angry supernatural entities.

Sounds cliche?

The story goes further. Each step Wolf Knight takes reflects the stage our company is in. His armor displays our brand colors. I won’t give spoilers, but the story is just getting started.

The concept of Wolf Knight sounded perfect. We had an idea. Found an audience. Identified three, smaller audiences our products could appeal to.

But no free income to splurge on what we needed to start.

Our Next Chapter Starts With Two Shop Fronts

We started with a simple set-up. A portable table and black tablecloth. Our friends at Nexus Game Lounge in Denton invited us to attend Otaku Food Fest early 2026.

John and I were in the prototype stage. We didn’t have a labeled bag, custom labels, access to business cards or a fancy QR code for our customers to scan. What we had was a limited time to put our heads together and find a way to make things work.

The Otaku Fest experiment proved two things: an audience for what we had existed, and the opportunity for B2B partnerships was within our grasp.

After Otaku, I spent what free time I had between college, my day job, and family activities carefully building and expanding our network. Something I hadn’t done with our publishing company. Our small budget didn’t allow for a large marketing budget, so I reached out as far into our community and the surrounding areas as possible.

The result?

Wolf Knight is growing. Our name is getting out into multiple communities. We have regulars who look for our products at markets. Everything beautiful we could dream of.

Since we opened in May, 2026, John and I have become a part of two community chambers. We have had the amazing opportunity to cater events for our Denton Chamber of Commerce, hosting back to school events for teachers, and sponsored amazing events like Arts & Autos and the Stride N’ Thrive.

August 7th found Wolf Knight at D20 Tavern in Denton. We may not have a store front, but we are celebrating our business launching.

Our Story has Only Begun

This is only our beginning.

We continue to listen to our mentors, growing and adapting to our customers’ needs, and add new products and services based on that advice and needs.

Wolf Knight’s tale is a story of a family with crushing debt, a swiftly deteriorating bank account, after school activities, school, work, etc just going through the daily grind. Wolf Knight is also the story of rebuilding. Of stepping out in faith. And starting when you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing. A story many of you understand.

I hope you find inspiration in it.
