Wolf and his team come to a silver lake. The crystal waters glisten under the light of a paleblood moon. Their long journey has only begun, yet this is a place offering rest and peace. A chance for food, drink, and perhaps a restful sleep. Not all is as it seems. Somewhere in the distance, the low thrumming dirge of bells echoes. Everyone looks around, confused. There are no villages or churches nearby. They wonder how bells could toll from nowhere? The lake goes still. The wind dies. A subtle rumble jostles the small stones at Wolf’s feet. Before them, the waters bulge and churn. Something pale as moonlight breaks the surface a few feet away. The Mournwake, an abyss-born horror older than the memory of Terrabore itself, breaks through the once calm waters. Its vast shape unfurls into a tangle of living shadow and pale, terrible light. Tentacles lash the sky, the waves, the shores. All around the world seems to shrink in the behemoth’s shadow. Wolf and his companions learn the blight is not the only darkness moving through these lands. There are older beings here. Gods hungry for the flesh of those who dared shun them. Creatures who listen for the cry of mourning bells.
